Archivist App Redesign

Background

Archivist is a music app that streams audience recordings of live concerts. The app taps into the Live Music Archive: an open-source digital music collection containing over 170,00 concert recordings, all of which are available to stream for free.

Problem

The existing app (available on the App Store) is functional, but it lacks basic structural UX elements, and the overall design of the interface feels unfinished.

Design Objective

While I’m a big fan of listening to live concert recordings, I understand that the user base for this app is a fairly niche audience. However, I didn’t think that a small user base should be justification for the design to appear as an afterthought. My goal for this project was to improve upon the existing elements of the app that worked, while adding functionality in key areas and making the overall experience more intuitive and visually engaging for the user.

The following screens highlight the search functionality flow from the main home screen, to the show selection, music player screen, and comments section.
